Rhonda Crowder & Associates is a creative services agency that develops messaging and design strategies for marketing, advertising, and public awareness campaigns.

How did you get into this field?

I started out with a dream to write books, plays, and movies (which I have since accomplished). However, I ended up working as a general assignment reporter for the Call & Post Newspaper. That opened so many doors for me to expand my career as a writer and literary professional, in addition, to satisfy a burning desire to become an entrepreneur. That 11-year experience at Call & Post, helped me to realize that this field (writing, publishing, and communications) is where I’m meant to be. With that, I started Rhonda Crowder & Associates in 2011 and it has continued to evolve into a communications service provider.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love generating, developing, and implementing ideas. I absolutely love telling untold stories. I really enjoy meeting people and helping them find solutions to their communications challenges.

What is the most challenging part about your job?

The most challenging part of my job is trying to work on scaling the business and deliver creative services at the same time. I enjoy both tasks equally and find it difficult to determine which one to turn over to someone else.

Why did you decide to become a PCBC member?

I’ve been familiar with The Presidents’ Council for years, going back to my days as a reporter for the Call & Post Newspaper. I’ve written stories about the PC Scholars Program and attended events. I think it is very important for African American entrepreneurs to be a part of a network that allows them to connect with other entrepreneurs, learn and grow. The Presidents’ Council has done some great work in our community for a long time and I always knew it’s an organization I need to be a part of.

What challenges do you face as an African American business professional?

As an African American business professional, I find it challenging to position my company to secure bigger government contacts. We are a small company and need more manpower. Therefore, it takes a lot of energy for us to stop our ongoing projects to prepare a response to a 50 page RFP and be denied the work. Then, how can we better position ourselves without that kind of experience in our portfolio? We are trying to figure out where and how we fit into that process.

What are your goals for your business and how do you see PC being part of that process?

My goal is to grow Rhonda Crowder & Associates to a multi-million dollar agency with a sizable staff of African American and other minority creatives (writers, designers, photographers, etc.) that can compete for government and Fortune 500 marketing and communications contracts. I believe The Presidents’ Council can help us expand our network, operations, and overall business acumen.
