14 Jul Recap: PC Nights Networking Event with FirstEnergy.

First EnergyThe evening began with guests having the opportunity to network and enjoying appetizers and drinks provided by Stancato’s Italian Restaurant. Dr. Deborale Richardson-Phillips, Diversity & Inclusion Lead, FirstEnergy Solutions who was the master of ceremonies for the evening, welcomed PCBC Members and thanked The President Council for putting this event together. Dr. Richardson-Phillips then quickly ran through the evenings agenda and introduced Erica C. Penick, Director of Operations for The Presidents’ Council, who thanked FirstEnergy and the panelist for hosting the PCBC.


John E. Skory,  Regional President of The Cleveland Illuminating Company  gave a brief synopsis of his role within FirstEnergy, some of the changes that the company has recently made and the importance of the Supplier Diversity Program. Mr. Skory then proceeded to introduce Bennett L. Gains, Sr. Vice President and CIO, First Energy Corp. who reinforced the importance of not only seeking contracts with, but most importantly making personal connections with his colleagues. Mr. Gaines also expressed a desire for continued partnerships with The Presidents’ Council.

Deborale Richardson-Phillips introduced the evening’s panel and moderated the discussion. The panelists included:

Joe LobodaDirector, Supply Chain Support Services, and

Paul HardenSenior Vice President & Chief Operations Officer, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company.

Dr. Richardson Phillips focused on three keys areas on the road to becoming a vendor with FirstEnergy: process, selection and upcoming projects. The panelist jumped right into the discussion, providing direct instructions and expectations for new vendors with FirstEnergy. They also shared insight on how small businesses may be able to become vendors or suppliers to some of their Tier 1 and Tier 11 suppliers. Dr. Deborale Richardson-Phillips concluded the discussion by opening up the floor to a question and answer session, giving all participants the opportunity to ask the panelists any lingering questions may have and for the panelists to offer their final words of advice.

The evening concluded with Erica C. Penick and Stephanie Sheeley, Member Services Coordinator for The Presidents’ Council recognizing and pinning all new members of the chamber.. Guests were invited to continue networking and getting to know one another and encouraged to attend the 9th Annual Presidents’ Council Golf Outing and Inaugural Business Conference.
